The Bachelor of Education in Musical Education is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to succeed in a variety of fields that require musical expertise and pedagogical knowledge. The program aims to help students develop a deep understanding of music theory, history, and performance, as well as teaching methodologies and classroom management techniques, and to apply that knowledge in creative and practical ways in a secondary education setting.
Through rigorous coursework and hands-on experiences, graduates of this major will be able to:
1. Demonstrate proficiency in music theory, history, and performance, as well as teaching methodologies and classroom management techniques, to implement student-centered, standards-based pedagogy at the secondary level.
2. Contribute to ongoing educational research in music education by teaching and modeling inquiry methodologies and data-informed instruction.
3. Be an informed and responsible citizen with a sense of national and global identity, appreciation of positive values and attitudes as well as respect for diversity in society.
4. Acquire and construct a broad and solid knowledge base of music theory, history, and performance, and understand contemporary issues that may impact students' daily lives at personal, community, national, and global levels.
5. Develop and apply generic skills in an integrative manner, and become an independent and self-directed learner for future study and work.
6. Use information and information technology ethically, flexibly, and effectively in teaching and performance.
